Northwoods Responders Can Get Safety Grants From WPS

WPS Foundation

Wisconsin Public Service Foundation is offering emergency response safety grants to communities within the WPS service area.

WPS spokesperson Matt Cullen says grants of up to $2,000 are being offered...

"...to assist them with equipment or professional training that improves safety within their communities. This was done starting in 2014 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the WPS Foundation and since that time the WPS Foundation has donated more than $205,000 to 116 emergency response agencies through these safety grants...."

Last year, the Eagle River Police Department received a grant for officer safety equipment...

"...From my understanding, they used that grant to purchase body armor for their officers. So by helping the Eagle River Police Department purchase that equipment through our safety grant, we're helping keep their officers safe, which in turn, helps keep their community safe as well...."

Last year the WPS Foundation awarded $50,000 to 28 emergency response agencies. To be eligible, agencies must show a need for the equipment or training as part of a well-detailed effort to improve public safety. Cullen says emergency response agencies should go to wisconsinpublicservice.com and apply online.
