Demmer Library Construction In Final Stages; Opening Early 2019

Don Sidlowski-WXPR

After more than a year, the end is in sight for the construction project to remodel the E.U. Demmer Memorial Library in Three Lakes.

Library Director Erica Brewster says the roof is on, windows are in and siding is going on the building. She says the interior work is also moving ahead....

"There are a couple major hurdles we need to get over including leveling the floor in the older part of the building and some other major pieces. Once those are done we'll have a much better idea when our final completion date will be, but we're looking at moving in in late January or early February..."

The planning for an updated library had been in the works for eight years prior to groundbreaking last May. Last March, the library moved downtown to the former Choo-Choo store. Brewster says the library in that location over the holidays is unique...

"..It turned out to be a really nice cozy spot to get decorated and festive for the holidays. We had a great downtown 'jingle mingle' celebration last Saturday. We're going to have a book signing on December 8 and some other mini-holiday events. We invite everyone to stop in and visit us in the storefront and visit us the last few times before we move into the new library..."

The project was reported to be near $2 million.
