Man Arrested After Backlogged DNA Sample Is Examined

maxpixel.net

After further DNA testing, a Minocqua sexual assault case is moving forward. WJFW TV reports the arrest of 26-year-old Brandon Darnick after state testing of a backlogged sample.

He has been charged with first-degree sexual assault of a child. The case dates back to 2013. At the time, police decided there wasn't enough evidence to make an arrest.

In April, Minocqua Police reported from a testing lab there were two DNA hits from the 2013 sexual assault testing kit. Recently, the test showed the alleged presence of Darnick's DNA from a test swab. Darnick was arrested November 29 at his residence in Minocqua. Attorney General Brad Schimel announced the state crime lab was testing more than 6,000 untested sexual assault kits, some dating back more than 30 years.

Darnick is being held in Oneida county on a $1,500 cash bond.
