Survey Finds Satisfaction With Oneida-Vilas Bus Service

Northwoods Transit Connections

Committee reports presented last week to the Vilas County Board of Supervisors included the results of a survey of passengers who used the Oneida-Vilas Transit Commission bus service this past spring.

Supervisor Erv Teichmiller of Arbor Vitae, who is a transit commission member, distributed and survey results that included personal comments by users on what the impact of the buses have on them.

Teichmiller indicated the survey was distributed by bus drivers to 130 passengers to complete and return ananoymously.

There were 77 returned (59%) with 51 passengers choosing to sign their return. Two-thirds came from Oneida County users and 55% were age 60 or older, 29% under 60 were disabled, and 16% under 60 did not have a disability.

Of significance, three-fourths did not have access to a car and the need for transportation for work, visiting a health center, shopping, just getting out of the house, and personal freedom were often mentioned in the comments. Almost one-third used the service daily while 38% used it from two to three times a week.

Asked about how bus drivers and dispatchers treated passengers, all indicated both were courteous and helpful. While many positive comments were made about the service, there was a suggestion for improvement. “Wish the bus was available for seniors on weekends so they can attend church, shopping.” For more information on this service, call 715-420-0585 or 844-267-4762.
