New Superintendent Named At Lincoln Hills-Copper Lake

Dept. of Corrections

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports Lincoln Hills-Copper Lake juvenile correction facility at Irma has a new superintendent.

The security director at the school, Klint Trevino, was promoted to the top post. He replaces Jason Benzel who left the job to become the warden of Dodge Correctional Institution. Lori McAllister will stay on as deputy superintendent.

The Journal-Sentinel reports lawmakers passed legislation requiring Lincoln Hills to close by July 2021. But Governor Tony Evers and Republicans who control the Legislature have acknowledged they won't meet that deadline because they haven't funded plans to build replacement facilities for the Lincoln county facility.

More than $25 million in legal fees and payouts have been paid  at the troubled facility, though an independent report says conditions have improved.
