This Year's Flu Vaccines Available

en.wikipedia.org

Flu clinics are available for the public to get this year’s flu vaccine. The Oneida County Health Department is offering standard and high-dose vaccines. Health Specialist Marta Koelling says the higher dose vaccines have more antigen than the standard, and are meant for people 65 years and older.  She says the best way to fight the flu is to vaccinate yourself.

“…in the United States, on average, 5-20% of the population will get the flu. Then that leads to actually a large proportion of people being hospitalized from seasonal flu related complications. Getting the flu shot can help either prevent the flu or if you do get the flu, giving you a less of an illness.”

Koelling says this year’s vaccine will protect against different strengths than it did last year.

Vaccines are available at the health department or at the community clinics. Walk-ins are welcome, and health cards must be present at the time of service.

For more information about the clinics and vaccines visit the health department’s website at oneidacountypublichealth.org or call 715-369-6111.
