Dave Noel is a retired Northwoods engineer who specialized during his career in subsurface reservoir engineering and mineral economics.
Noel rode along on a tour recently held at the Eagle mine in the U.P. The tour was designed to showcase a modern mining operation gathering similar types of ore to the deposit under county forest land in the Town of Lynne, Oneida county.
When supervisors returned, they were impressed with the operation, and Noel said he was too. But he says that operation is very different in some key ways than the Lynne site, should the county decide to allow mining there...
Voters will have an advisory choice on potential mining in Lynne next week. Other thoughts on the vote will be coming this week.
