MREA Energy Fair This Weekend

Midwest Renewable Energy Association

The Midwest Renewable Energy Association's 30th Energy Fair begins Friday in Custer, east of Stevens Point.

The Energy Fair is the nation’s longest-running event of its kind and brings over 10,000 attendees together to learn about sustainability and clean energy and take action toward a sustainable future.

Event manager Jordan Pupols says the fair is a demonstration of their mission of clean energy and sustainable living.

One of the keynote speakers is nationally-known Dr. Naomi Oreskes, the author of 'The Scientific Consensus on Climate Change'. Other speakers include journalist and author Bethany McClean, Green Party candidate Rosa Clemente, and Conservation Biologist, Environmental Historian, and Writer Curt Meine.

Pupols says the public has close access to some of the most knowledgeable people involved in clean energy and sustainability...

"..A lot of the individuals that come here to present workshops are leading experts in their respective areas. So there isn't a lot of places where you can get this many knowledgeable people on such a wide variety of topics..."

Workshops covering dozens of topic areas are held the entire weekend. Live music is also a part of the mix. Documentaries and production of a radio podcast are featured. Pupols says the fair continues evolve...

"..I think the audience is a little more diverse than it has been historically. We see a spread across generations and genres of individuals...."
