Boulder Junction Area Boat Landing Improvement Fund Gives Towards Local Projects

Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce

Frozen water fundraising has led to warm water improvements at Upper Gresham and White Sand Lakes in Boulder Junction.

Boulder Junction Chamber board members presented the DNR with a check totaling $6000.00 towards the purchase of new aluminum roll-in pier at Upper Gresham Lake as well as work being done improving the White Sand Lake landing, which will include new blacktop.

Chamber Executive Director Theresa Smith says they started the boat landing improvement fund back in 2007....

"..When(the effort) began we had extremely low lake levels. It was very difficult for anglers to access the lakes, the boat landings, so we started working with the DNR and the Town of Boulder Junction to figure out ways we could make some improvements to the landings so they could get out and fish and enjoy their time on the water..."

Smith says more piers are possible depending on fundraising...

"...It's kind of something we talk about each year. This year we gave a lot, in the amount of $6,000. It took a few years for us to raise, so there will be something in the works in the future but we need to have more fishing tournaments to raise the money...."

The Boulder Junction Area Boat Landing Improvement Fund helped to fund the two projects. The Fund is made possible by the Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce’s annual ice fishing tournament, Frozen Tozen, Over the past 12 years, more than $16,000 has been given to projects which ease accessibility to area lakes.

The next Frozen Tozen is February 1 on Boulder Lake.
