Simple Steps Can Save Energy In Hot Weather

WAOW Television

If the heat has you reaching for the thermostat, think again.

Wisconsin Public Service has several low or no-cost tips to beat the heat while keeping your home energy efficient.

Some free options are as simple as closing your blinds to prevent heat from coming in. It's also a good idea to turn the thermostat up a few degrees while sleeping or out of the house, and make sure the fan setting is on auto.

If you do need to spend money to make your home more efficient, consider purchasing caulk or weather stripping to seal gaps in doors and windows. You can also invest in a smart thermostat that will regulate energy usage.

Matt Cullen, a spokesperson for WPS, said following these tips will ultimately save you more money on your energy bill.

"We want customers to be aware of the steps that they can take as we enter this first heat wave of the summer to make sure they're able to manage their energy bills, their energy costs, and improve the energy efficiency of their home," he said.

WPS also offers an energy efficient billing option available to customers. It allows people to spread their bills evenly over one year, so you pay around the same price each month.
