Every once in awhile, there is a topic so big, that we devote a forum to discussing it in-depth. It gives us the chance to understand all of the sides of the issue, rather than just a few points of view.

WXPR Candidate Forum: Felzkowski vs. Vocke in the 12th State Senate District

Two candidates are on the ballot in Wisconsin’s 12th State Senate District, which covers most of the Northwoods: Republican Mary Felzkowski and Democrat Ed Vocke. Listen to WXPR’s forum with the two candidates by clicking the audio player above.

The district includes all of Oneida, Lincoln, Langlade, Forest, Florence, and Menominee counties. Most of Vilas County is in the district, and parts of Marathon, Marinette, Oconto, and Shawano counties are in the district.

The district was represented by Republican Tom Tiffany since 2013. Earlier this year, he resigned when elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to Tiffany’s term, the seat had been in Democratic hands since the early 1980s.

Felzkowski is currently a state representative for the 35th Assembly District, whose major communities include Tomahawk, Merrill, and Antigo. She was first elected in 2012, and has served on the Joint Finance Committee. In the current term, she serves as the Assembly’s Assistant Majority Leader.

Vocke has worked in the hospitality industry for two decades, but is also an advocate for family farms. Vocke lives in Minocqua and says his young child is the reason he got into politics.

Election Day is November 3.
