A college degree can put someone in a better position to land a job and make more money doing it, but affording college is a barrier to many people.

The Nicolet College Promise program has helped 57 students attended college tuition-free.

The tuition assistance program is for recent high school graduates that live in the Nicolet College District.

Nicolet Dean of Enrollment Erika Warning-Meyer says it’s a great program that makes higher education affordable.

“We hear a lot right now about student’s concerns over the cost of education and the Nicolet Promise makes it possible for students to not have to worry about that cost when it comes to tuition,” said Warning-Meyer.

The Foundation Board recently revised eligibility requirements to allow more students to take advantage of it.

The program now covers the cost up to 15 credits per term until the student completes their Associate Degree or 70 credits.

It also changed the minimum credit hours per term from 12 to 9.

Warning-Meyer says it’s a great way to a get a degree to get secure a job after graduating to help further your education.

“We make sure that our education ties to skills our employers are looking for in our area, so students can get education in high demand career fields in the Northwoods and be able to do that tuition free through the promise program,” said Warning-Meyer. “Another thing that’s a great opportunity is that we have a university transfer program so students can do the first two years of their Bachelor’s Degree program, so really if you’re interested in any program at a four year institution you can get started here and the Nicolet Promise can help you do it tuition free.”

Interested students need to apply by March 1st. You can apply on the Nicolet College website.
