Nicolet College Starts Search for New College President

Nicolet College

The Nicolet College Board of Trustees is starting its search for the next college president.

Current college president Dr. Richard Nelson is retiring this summer after 5-plus years in the position.

Board Chairman Sharon Nielson said the college is in good shape financially and academically thanks to Dr. Nelson and his leadership team.

It’s one of the reasons the board is hoping to find his replacement from within.

“He’s done an exemplary job. His talents and services to the college will genuinely be missed,” said Nielson. “That’s one of the reasons we made the choice we did in regard to our selection process. While Dr. Nelson leads the college, he also assembled an impressive group of individuals who make up the current executive leadership and who are also instrumental in moving the college forward.”

The board has voted to open the search at the moment to internal candidates only.  It is prepared to open to a national search if need be.

Nielsen says a candidate that can handle crisis management, like the COVID-19 pandemic, will be a top priority.

“This was something that took everyone by surprise but has been handled so exceptionally well by Dr. Nelson and the entire Nicolet College community. They have just been amazing at the way they’ve been able to sort of pivot and adjust and continue delivering,” said Nielson.

The board is just starting the hiring process.

There will be an opportunity for the public to meet with candidates in an open forum.

It hopes to make a selection at the beginning of the new year.
