North Creek Loop Trail Committee Looking to Raise Funds to Finish 14-Mile Loop in Boulder Junction

A 14-mile long loop of paved bike trail that connects two major campgrounds to the Heart of Vilas County Trail. That’s the goal of the latest trail expansion project in Boulder Junction.

The North Creek Loop Trail Committee wants to build 3.3 miles of trail along County Highway H to complete the loop.

Once completed, Camp Holiday and Upper Gresham Lake campgrounds would be connected to the trail system.

Trail Committee member Barb Konopacki said the new trail section is a matter of recreation and safety.
“They bring in an enormous amount of visitors every year and every year there’s more bicyclists and families using H and we need to get these people off County Highway H and be safe on a trail,” Konopacki.

The Town of Boulder Junction was recently awarded  $217,299 from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program.

The committee is looking to raise another $155,000 to pay for phase one of the North Creek Trail project.

“We’re just finding it’s a growing sport up here and it can be just an individual activity. It can be groups. It can be families. It’s just kind of a natural type trail up here with the Heart of Vilas County,” said Konopacki.

To donate go to the North Creek Loop Trail website. You can also donate by mail to: Boulder Junction Community Foundation, Inc. PO Box 675, Boulder Junction, WI 54512.

The trail committee hopes to have the section completed as early as next fall.
