Solar Power Could Help Support Wausau Water Facilities

Wausau Water Works officials are looking into the possibility of offsetting some of the electrical costs for the new water treatment plants with a seven-acre solar panel array.

Public Works Director Eric Lindman says they're currently working to acquire the land.

“We’re just working through the last details on that property.  Hopefully everything will come up okay and then we’ll be purchasing that property this spring.”

Lindman says they still need to do a few studies to find out just how much power could be generated.

Lindman says the $2 to $2.5 million dollar investment could mean more stable water rates for customers.

“Both the water treatment facility and the wastewater treatment facility are high users of electricity, so anyway we can offset that power will significantly impact all users within the city.”

Lindman says funding for the project is still being worked out….

More information will be presented at the next Water Works meeting in April- that includes blueprints and information about payback times.
