A number of highway detours in Vilas County due to culvert replacement will affect county Highway K and M starting this week in a report to the county Highway Committee by to highway commissioner Troy Schalinske.

“The Rice Creek box culvert on Highway K will be the week of April 19th and will take about one week to install,” Schalinske said. “Detours will be signed using Highways H, U.S. 51, and Highway W.”

A longer detour lasting about three weeks will be later in summer for culvert replacement over Allequash and Stevenson Creeks on Highway M south of Boulder Junction. “I have requested the contractor, Pitlik & Wick, not to schedule this in July,” he said.

Bids for reconstruction of Highway K east on Conover to East Buckatabon Road were opened last Tuesday too late for this issue. The Highway K bridge design over the Wisconsin River is expected to be let by the state Dept. of Transportation on May11.

A letter request dated April 3rd from the chairman of the Town of Winchester for allowing ATV/UTV travel on Highway J, O, and W was delayed due to “a step that was missed” according to Supervisor Holly Tomlanovich, chair of the county Forestry Committee.  It is expected to be on next months Forestry Committee agenda.

A request from the Town of Land O’ Lakes to use about 1,330 feet of Highway 45 from River Road south to include the bridge over the Wisconsin River is expected to be approved by the county board at their April 20 meeting.
