Northern Wisconsin Health Officers Urge COVID-19 Safety Practices and Vaccinations as Cases Rise

Wisconsin DHS

Local and Tribal public health departments in the Northwoods are urging people to follow COVID-19 health guidelines. 14 health departments signed the message including, Oneida, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Vilas, Iron, and Price County Health Officers.

It calls for people to keep wearing masks, physically distance, wash your hands, avoid large gatherings, and get vaccinated.

The health officers say the Northern region of Wisconsin is still seeing cases of COVID-19, including those from variants.

It says the variants are now the predominant strain. This also means people previously who got COVID are susceptible again.

The health officials say they’re seeing more and more people become re-infected, especially over the last three weeks.

According to DHS data, the North Central Region is the only one in the state with the number of hospitalizations growing.

The health officers urged people to get vaccinated.

Most counties aren’t even halfway to 80-percent of people fully vaccinated, which is a goal to help end the pandemic.
