Wikimedia Commons

Vilas County needs a new judge.

Governor Evers announced Tuesday that he is seeking applicants for a Circuit Court Judge.

The person will fill the vacancy created by Judge Neal Nielson III.

Judge Nielson is resigning at the beginning of October.

The new judge will complete the term ending on July 31, 2022.

Judge Nielson is currently Vilas County’s only judge.

The county did get approval to get a second judge. That election will likely take place next spring.

For those looking to fill Judge Nielson’s vacancy, the application for appointment can be found on the "Apply to Serve" page on Gov. Evers' website at: www.evers.wi.gov. To apply, email a completed application form and supporting materials to GOVJudicialAppointments@wisconsin.gov. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Fri., July 30, 2021.

Applicants with questions about the judicial selection process may contact the Governor’s Office of Legal Counsel at (608) 266-1212.
