Climate Change Rally Set For Friday Noon At Woodruff

Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg has led a number of Friday climate strikes to raise awareness about climate change. Friday in Woodruff, local activists are hoping to raise awareness here.

Members of Northwoods Progressives will be gathering in Woodruff and they invite the public.

An organizer of the event is Callie Bates of Mercer....

"...We will be meeting at the Good Vibes building. We will probably march down to the corner of Highways 47 and 51, across from Walgreens and we'll just be holding signs and hoping to get a nice crowd out to raise awareness about climate change...."

Bates says she was inspired to follow the path Thunberg has begun. She says she hopes it inspires others to look at the issue....

"...but I hope that people who are aware that climate change might be happening and themselves feel kind of powerless and helpless to take any action will see even here in northern Wisconsin where there are no governmental entities...we can still raise our voices and take action...."

Bates says the milder winters and flooding might be an indicator of climate change here in the Northwoods.

The rally is set for noon at 714 Elm St. near the intersection of Highways 47 and 51.
