Governor Evers Issues Executive Order to Address PFAS in Wisconsin

Governor Tony Evers issued an executive order concerning a group human-made chemicals in Wisconsin.

Evers is addressing pollution from chemicals known as PFAS in firefighting foam, non-stick cookware, and fast food containers.  Evers wants state environmental and agriculture regulators to work with wastewater treatment plants to identify PFA sources, and develop regulatory standards for them.

His administration is proposing a new PFAS enforcement standard of 20 parts per trillion. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is already working to implement that.  The federal standard is 70 parts per trillion.

Republican State Representative John Nygren of Marinette said he was happy to see that Governor Evers is taking this issue seriously and that every citizen deserves to have access to safe and reliable drinking water.
