Public Invited To Nicolet College To Hear About Creativity And The Economy

Create Portage County

The concept of arts and culture advocacy creating a more engaged community and strengthening the economy is the key to an event Tuesday at Nicolet College in Rhinelander.

Nicolet College is hosting their next HireUp Series event from 8 a.m. until noon Tuesday, Feb. 25 at the college's Northwoods Center.

CREATE Portage County is inspiring this collaborative effort. ArtStart's Melinda Childs says she will reveal plans soon to begin a similiar program here called CREATE NORTHWOODS...

"I will be talking about Create Northwoods which is a new program in collaboration with ArtStart and Nicolet(College) that we're about to launch. It was inspired by Create Portage County and Greg Wright who is the Executive Director who will be speaking before me to tell everybody what that is about..."

Wright will share how CREATE worked with central Wisconsin employers and potential employees. He says it can bolster creativity, foster connections, and strengthen collaborations between employers and community members to create a place people want to live, play, work, and invest.

Childs says attendees will learn how creativity can lead to a better Northwoods economy as well. She says ArtStart, Nicolet College and the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce and others have been doing this type of work for several years, but Create Northwoods formalizes it..

"We'll be adding the component of really supporting creative entrepreneurs. Artist-run businesses and creative businesses in the Northwoods, providing different support and resources for them. Networking opportunities, encouraging more people if they have an idea in their heads to start up, again more of the cultural events in collaboration that we've already been doing..."

The public is welcome to attend the free event, but an RSVP is required. Contact information  is  715.365.4544 or email ce@nicoletcollege.edu.
