Vaccination Priority Sought For Municipal Clerks

The Village of Weston is supporting a statewide movement to get municipal clerks vaccinated for COVID-19 before the spring election.

Wisconsin's Municipal Clerks Association is calling for clerks and poll workers to be included in the current vaccination group, saying it makes sense to protect those who may be exposed to large volumes of people at once.

Additionally, many poll workers are retired, therefor they fall into the higher-risk category for the disease.

Last year many clerks navigated as many as five elections in an ongoing pandemic, many doing so without adequate PPE.

The resolution adds that vaccinating clerks could also help re-open local municipal halls, as Clerks often handle some day-to-day operations for local government in addition to leading elections.

The Village passed the resolution as part of a special meeting on Wednesday.
