Rhinelander Food Pantry Gearing Up For Challenge

en.wikipedia.org

The public again is being invited to help the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry get it's part of a $1 million challenge grant from the Feinstein Foundation.

This is the 18th year Alan Feinstein has offered the money to U.S. food pantries.

Rhinelander Executive Director Guy Hansen says how successful the local pantry is will determine how much they receive...

"....we get a portion of that million dollars based on how much money we collect over those two months. We try to hit a little bit of a peak on collections during that time. It's actually the second largest donation time for us...."

The challenge begins March 1st and runs through April. Cash and food donations count toward the match. Hansen says the CANtastic event is also used to get funds for  the challenge. CANtastic finds teams collecting canned food and building the cans into a form. This year the theme is 'historic buildings'. Hansen says the competition is again being held at the Rouman Cinema in Rhinelander. The build day is March 7 and Hansen says he hopes teams come forward soon to register. All the canned goods used to build the Cantastic structure are donated to the food pantry.

You can find out more information at the Rhinelander Area Food Pantry website, calling the food pantry, or Guy Hansen at 715-282-5810.
