A few volunteers are needed as final preparations are underway for one of spring's signature events: the 23rd Journeys Marathon this weekend in Vilas county.
The run begins in Boulder Junction and ends in Eagle River, covering more than 26 miles. There's also a half-marathon that starts in Conover, along with a 13 mile power walk that also starts in Conover. There's also a 10k race and a 5k race.
Eagle River Chamber of Commerce Events Coordinator Natalie Spiess says things coming together as the event nears...
"...We're at about 500 registered so far in all combined races. We have a good field this year. That doesn't include what we get registered Friday night and Saturday morning..."
Spiess says they need a few volunteers to help out at the end of the race. Spiess says the event gives a boost to the Northwoods economy just prior to the main tourism season starting on Memorial Day.
She outlines more of the weekend activities...
"...Registration will be at the high school from 5 o'clock to 9 o'clock and packet pick up. So if you pre-register you can pick up your shirts and runners information. If you haven't registered you can go there Friday night and you can do the registration. We also have a health and wellness expo that happens at the high school from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Then on Saturday morning there's registration at the high school for the half-marathon, marathon and power walk..."
At Riverview Park there's registration for the 5k and 10k Saturday morning. More information is on the event is on the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce website.
