YMCA of the Northwoods Has First Phase Reopening With Changes,

YMCA of the Northwoods

As state businesses slowly reopen amid the coronavirus outbreak, the YMCA of the Northwoods has reopened it's doors.

Chief Executive Officer Ryan Zietlow says they opened Tuesday morning after consulting with health experts. The changes they made to protect the members are on the "Y"'s website....

"We put our full facility reopen plan and guideline on there so it's a 12-13 page document that outlines all of our spaces, so members and the community can see exactly how we are handling the reopen. There's also some welcome videos there as we do know the changes make our "Y" look and feel a little bit different..."

In the pool area, it's one person per lap lane, locker room use has changed, including the showers. In the Wellness Center they've moved equipment farther apart so everyone has a six-foot safety buffer among several other changes.

Zietlow says the opening is phase one where they're looking at keeping people safe, but there are other phases to the plan...

"When we look at moving beyond phase one into phase two, which could have different areas of our YMCA reopen such as our drop in childcare with Adventure Alley, our whirlpool, our sauna and those areas we'd be looking at phase two..."

He said there is no date for phase two to begin, as that will depend on the virus and their confidence that they can provide a safe space. Zietlow says he was there when they opened early Tuesday and it was quite emotional.
