Efforts go on to save northern Wisconsin paper mills

Ben Meyer/WXPR

Work will go on to save two northern Wisconsin paper mills.

The efforts by state representatives Scott Krug of Nekoosa and Jeff Mursau of Crivitz target idled paper mills in Wisconsin Rapids and Park Falls.

Mursau talked about what they have in mind….

“Representative Krug and myself will be introducing legislation that will help the mill in Park Falls, and also the mill in Wisconsin Rapids where Verso is located”

Mursau says they know how important those mills are to both communities and the state.

“We know how critical it is that these mills stay in operation with the industry being a $24-billion industry in this state, and it’s critical that we work as hard as we can to keep these mills going”

Mursau says more details will come out later. The Republican is hoping that the proposal can be something both sides will get on board with.

“We need to keep these mills going so that they can keep the employment and keep our Northwoods and the state of Wisconsin as a whole…. this effects every county in the state”

Previous attempts to use stimulus money to get the facilities going failed.
