Wintry mix causes power outages, school closures across Northwoods

A winter storm warning and hazardous weather outlook are in effect across much of the Northwoods Wednesday morning, as a wintry mix of freezing rain and snow falls across the area.

Heavy ice accumulation makes travel on roads dangerous and has caused power outages in many counties.

Thousands of customers in the Northwoods are without power this morning, according to the Wisconsin Public Service outages map.

As of 6:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, more than 13,000 customers in Oneida County are in the dark.

About 2,000 customers are without power in Vilas County.

Langlade County reported about 1,000 customers without power, while Lincoln County reported just under 200 customers without power.
