Wikimedia Commons

Zachery James Vruwink will likely be the next Rhinelander City Administrator.

Tuesday, Mayor Chris Frederickson announced the city had successfully negotiated an employment contract with Vruwink. It still needs to be approved by City Council.

Vruwink is the former mayor of Wisconsin Rapids. Mayor Frederickson hired Vruwink as a consultant in May 2020 to help with administrative duties after the termination of former administrator Daniel Guild.

Guild was charged after an investigation by the Oneida County Sheriff's Department regarding open records requests. Those charges could be dropped pending an agreementwith the DA’s office.

After Guild was terminated, Frederickson announced he had hired Vruwink on a short-term contract. Later, the council extended Vruwink's contract.

In a news release, the city said Vruwink’s contract with the city ended on February 28.

The city said Vruwink was their top candidate but did not say out of how many.

The City Council will meet Wendesday night for a special session to approve the contract. If approved, Vruwink will start as City Administrator following the meeting.
