After rejecting filling a vacant county board seat last month that saw objections related to alleged legal issues of candidate Christopher Mayer, the Vilas County board approved 15-4 the recommendation of board chairman Ron DeBruyne to appoint Joseph Wildcat, Jr. to fill the District 10 seat in Lac du Flambeau vacated with the retirement of Al Bauman.
DeBruyne declared “there would be no discussion and no character assignation as happened in March” and immediately called for a vote. Four board members, Mike Cady, Art Kunde, Walt Maciag, and Dan Swiecichowski, voted against.
Wildcat has previously worked as the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Operations manager and Tribal President.
