Vilas County Summer Road Construction in Full Swing

PIXABAY.COM

Travel any distance on state or county highways and you will find sections under re-construction which prompted Vilas County Highway Commissioner Troy Schalinske to bring county highway supervisors up to date on what’s happening on county trunk highways (CTH).

“Beginning mid June the CTH K bridge over the Wisconsin River will begin construction,” Schalinske said. “Sheet Piling Services of Custer was the low bidder at $1,525,155 lower than the $1,694,870 estimate.”

Construction is scheduled for the week of June 21 on CTH K from Highway 45 to East Buckatabon Road and to start July16 on CTH B.

“Probably the greatest disruption this summer will be CTH M culvert replacements over Allequash and Stevenson Creeks south of Boulder Junction. These replacements will be scheduled later in summer and there is unanticipated three week closure with detours,” Schalinske said. “I have requested Pitlik & Wick not to schedule this project in July.”

Preliminary CTH N bridge design is being studied and the CTH K Rice Creek box culvert has been completed.  CTH A in Phelps will be a major project and Schalinske indicated they are information on the Federal Lands Access Program.

Finally, the committee approved a land use agreement for the Bear Lodge in Winchester to allow parking on highway right-of-way. New operators Beverly Mayenschein and Britney Nelson who plan to open the business long operated by the late Art LaHa, bow hunter extraordinaire.
