Northwoods communities honoring 20th anniversary of 9/11 with ceremonies Saturday

The City of Antigo Fire Department is holding a silent apparatus parade. It will start at 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the fire department at 700 Edison St.

The fire department asks people to show their support by turning on porch lights and standing with candles along the parade route in memory of those who lost their lives.

Merrill

The Northwoods Veteran Post is holding a “We Remember” ceremony.

  • 7:30 – Flag retirement Ceremony Merrill Boy Scouts
  • 7:46:40 – Merrill Fire Department retires its flag in honor of the 343 Firefighters and 2 paramedics who perished.
  • 8:03:02 – Merrill Police Department retires its flag in honor of the 61 Police Officers who perished.
  • 8:37:46 – VFW Post 1638 retires the Northwoods Veterans Post flag in honor of the 55 Military who perished, the 2.77 million service members who served, and the over 7,000 that have given the ultimate sacrifice for our great country since.
  • 8:59 – Hospital Air EMS retires its flag in honor of the thousands of Health Care Professionals that triaged and cared for those walking out of the rubble.

Tomahawk

The Tomahawk Fire Department is holding its annual 9/11 ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park: 10:00am- Reflection 10:30am- Ceremony Begins Posting of Colors Invocation- Pastor Larry Mathein National Anthem Proclamation- Mayor Steve Taskay Law Enforcement/EMS/Fire Department/Military Speeches Amazing Grace Bag Pipes Tomahawk Veteran Honor Firing Squad TAPS Benediction- Pastor Larry Mathein Retirement of Colors Closing Announcements

Rhinelander

There will be a processional of Fire/EMS/Law enforcement Apparatus and Personnel from Oneida County starting at 9:59 a.m. Saturday.

The route begins at Brown Street and King, goes north to the Davenport and then east to the Oneida County Courthouse.

A commemoration Observance will be held at the courthouse upon arrival.

Minocqua

At 8:59AM on Saturday, September 11, the Town of Minocqua will sound its fire siren for two minutes to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of 9/11 (the time the first tower collapsed at the World Trade Center). Community members may participate by stopping and observing a personal moment of silence during the siren activation.
