A car hit and killed a pedestrian on State Road 64 in the Township of Pine River Friday evening.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office says the victim, James Hartson, 84, of Gleason, was out of his car looking for a deer he had just hit when the crash occurred.

Paramedics from the Merrill Fire Department tried to save his life, but could not.

The driver of the other vehicle was also injured and needed medical attention.

The Sherriff’s Office does not believe alcohol or speed to be factors in the crash.

It says the crash is under investigation and the driver is cooperating with law enforcement.
