Karl Hayes is returning to the Northwoods to serve as Vilas County District Attorney.
Governor Tony Evers announced the appointment Friday.
Hayes served in the Vilas County DA’s office as a legal intern and family connections to the area.
He’s been working as the assistant district attorney with the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office since 2007.
Hayes replaces Martha Milanowski who was recently appointed to Vilas County Circuit Court following Judge Nielsen’s retirement.
Hayes will serve for the remainder of the unexpired term that ends January 2025.
