Ken Anderson

Vilas County Judge Neal Nielsen is stepping down and wanted to show his appreciation to the county board last week, for which he was a member, prior to his appointment to the bench.

“We’ve had a unique partnership and the board has been a terrific partner and supported the physical operation of the court for safety, not only for the court but the courthouse and those who work here,” Judge Nielsen said. “I want to thank you for the support for a second judge for Vilas County, the need has been there for a long time and will provide a real service to Vilas County.”

Judge Nielsen expressed his appreciation for the partnership with the Tribal court and the Wellness Center and Restorative Justice programs and his support for the state appointment of current county district attorney Martha Milanowski to replace him saying “she will make an excellent judge for Vilas County.”

County board chairman Ron DeBruyne indicated “this has been a two-way street and has been a good working relationship.”

The full county board and all others in the meeting gave Judge Neal Nielsen, III a standing ovation.
